The company says sales rose 4 percent globally at stores open at least 13 months.Sales in the U.S., where McDonald's has been closing stores in recent years, rose 2.6 percent. McDonald's says people have been spending more on average per visit at U.S. restaurants, partly because of higher prices. McDonald's earned $1.5 billion for the period that ended June 30. A survey by Zacks Investment Research shows that's 7 cents better than Wall Street was expecting. The improved sales come as the chain works to modernize its stores.
