Abstract
Kitchener lawyer, gardener, and Olympian Harvey J ames Sims, who attended Suddaby School with Canada’s future prime minster William Lyon Mackenzie King, hosted him during World War 2 era visits to his 16 hectare (40 ac) 1928 estate, 'Chicopee'. The Sims estate was eventually sold by his family and later developed in 2004 as ‘The Grand Manors of Sims Estates’, a private neighbourhood. Routing the Walter Bean Trail through the private residential enclave has been fraught. An agreement between the development and City of Kitchener provides for public trail access via an easement , and the 1928 Sims home h as designated as a cultural heritage landscape.
