Modélisation de la concurrence du secteur privé en santé au Québec

Abstract
Ce mémoire développe un modèle théorique du marché de l’emploi en santé dans lequel il existe des cas où un monopsone public des soins de la santé est plus efficace qu’une situation de concurrence à deux hôpitaux. Cette modélisation du marché du travail comprend une composante de chômage volontaire qui fait en sorte que le marché du travail y est imparfait. La pression à la hausse sur les salaires engendrés par la concurrence entre les hôpitaux pour attirer des travailleurs diminue l’offre de main-d’oeuvre totale, augmente les coûts et réduit le bien-être de la société, et ce, même dans le cas où l’hôpital privé et plus productif que l’hôpital public. Je montre aussi que le positionnement des hôpitaux et la distance qui les sépare sont critiques pour déterminer si la situation en concurrence est souhaitable.
