Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Understanding ancient volcanic rocks is essential to providing important constraints on the evolution of Archean cratons and has implications for early plate tectonic processes. Developing complete histories of Archean cratons, such as the Slave craton of northern Canada, is challenging as Archean crust is often composed of fragmented blocks that have been subjected to polyphase deformation. The mafic volcanic rock-dominated Arrowhead Outlier, an enigmatic 61 km2 grouping of volcanic rocks in the west-central region of the Slave craton, provides valuable insights into the emplacement of ocean-affinity volcanic rocks during the Archean. Its preservation as an isolated, fault-bounded pocket of Archean crust within a volumetrically extensive expanse of undifferentiated granitoids also provides insight into our understanding of the tectonic history of the Slave craton and the relative timing between regional plutonism and terrane accretion. A combination of bedrock mapping (1:2000 scale), petrographic studies, and whole and trace element geochemical analyses were used to document the stratigraphy and mineralization style and provide interpretations of tectonic setting and regional correlation of these volcanic rocks. Results indicate that the volcanic rocks of the Arrowhead Outlier are dominated by effusive subaqueous flows with lesser volcaniclastic rocks. Younging indicators throughout volcanic stratigraphy indicate that rocks young generally to the north. Geochemically, the volcanic package is predominantly tholeiitic basalt that evolves to transitional basalt, with calc-alkaline basaltic-andesite and rhyolite at the top of stratigraphy. Volcanogenic massive sulfide-style mineralization is found throughout the volcanic package. Lithogeochemistry is consistent with the eruption of lava in a juvenile back-arc basin, and the correlation of the Arrowhead Outlier with the Peltier Formation of the Point Lake greenstone belt further suggests that the paleotectonic environment may be a back-arc setting.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
