En el presente trabajo se especifican algunos de los desafíos emocionales y sociales que enfrentan los estudiantes migrantes en dos contextos sociales y escolares distintos: Quebec (Canadá) y Salamanca (España). A partir del estado del arte existente, inicia el estudio a partir de algunas limitaciones que enfrentan estos estudiantes durante sus procesos de adaptación e integración, en entornos donde no se cuestione la posibilidad de acceder a múltiples prestaciones de bienestar, las políticas educativas y sociales no siempre responden a las necesidades de los estudiantes migrantes. El discurso institucional proyecta una imagen favorable y acogedora para los estudiantes migrantes; sin embargo, de hecho, se evidencian múltiples barreras, como: costos elevados, cambios legislativos frecuentes por cambios de gobierno, poca compañía psicosocial y estrategias poco adaptadas a sus necesidades; lo que genera vulnerabilidad emocional y social que dificultan tanto la permanencia como el bienestar integral de los estudiantes migrantes. Desde una perspectiva crítica, se propone una reflexión de la brecha entre las políticas públicas establecidas y las experiencias concretas de quienes intentan integrarse a los sistemas educativos como estudiantes migrantes. Además, se plantea la urgencia de revisar las políticas para que sean más inclusivas, sostenibles y situadas.
