IE TCD MS 9384/1240: Letter from Matthew Evanson O'Brien, 11 Faraday Road, Notting Hill, London to Michael Davitt dated 15th March 1896 referencing Henry Labouchère and his kindness. Includes a copy of a note on the back from Davitt [in London] dated 10th October 1896 requesting to meet O'Brien; see IE TCD MS 9384/1241 for the original. Labouchère was a writer, publisher, theatre owner and M.P., responsible for the 'Labouchère Amendment' of 1885, which criminalised all male homosexual activity in the United Kingdom. Dublin-born Matthew Evanson O'Brien (1842-1911) was a lawyer; he died and was buried in Wetaskiwin Cemetery, Wetaskiwin, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
