IE TCD MS 9383/1179: Letter from Edward Gibson, 57 Chester Square, London dated 7th May 1877 introducing Matthew Evanson O'Brien: "I have known Mr. M. Evanson O'Brien for many years & have had several opportunities of [?] of his professional ability & capacity. He has been a solicitor for [some years?]... I may add that he was educated at Trinity College, Dublin & he is a man of good general [information?]". Dublin-born Matthew Evanson O'Brien (1842-1911) was a lawyer, married to Laura Alice Harper O'Brien (1860-1937); he died and was buried in Wetaskiwin Cemetery, Wetaskiwin, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Edward Gibson, 1st Baron Ashbourne (1837-1913) was a barrister and Lord Chancellor of Ireland from 1885-1886.
