Abstract
Inspired by Sustainable Calgary’s long standing State of Our City report series, this geospatial edition of the State of Our City report includes 16 different indicators spanning 4 domains: Ecological Health, Urban Form, Housing, and Transportation and Energy. Each indicator was assessed whether it is trending toward greater, neutral, or poorer sustainability. Out of the 16 indicators, 3 trended good, 11 trended neutral, and 2 trended bad. More specifically, Calgary remains neutral in urban form and ecological health with a downward trend in housing, energy, and transportation. To get Calgary trending positively in all domains, the key recommendation is to plan accordingly and reasonably. Calgary needs to regain its focus and prioritize the current infrastructure to increase its overall sustainability. Incentive programs for increasing density, reducing energy use, increasing housing, aiding the workforce, and improving current ecological prospects are the trending suggestions throughout these indicators.
