Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The new Dufferin gold mine is located within the hinge of the Crown Reserve Anticline (CRA), Port Dufferin, Nova Scotia. Mining and development at this site afforded an opportunity to study flexural shear and related structures along an exposed section on the north limb of the CRA. Three distinct lithologies (metasandstone, metasiltstone, and slate) form repeating, gradationally fining-upward cycles, with sharp lithological contacts between slate tops and overlying metasandstone beds. Cleavage occurs in the metasandstone as a prominent, variably penetrative, zonal-to-spaced pressure solution cleavage, manifested by abundant fractures. Within metasiltstone and slate it is a fine, continuous, parallel cleavage, typically observed in fine-grained clastic rocks. Bedding-parallel movement horizons are commonly developed within the section. Their distribution is mainly controlled by lithostratigraphy, as they tend to occur at the tops of slate/metasiltstone beds of moderate thickness (8-18 cm). A system of bedding- parallel and rotated en echelon shear quartz veins occurring within slate/metasiltstone beds are present throughout the section, as down-dip extensions of larger, saddle reef veins located in the fold hinge. Bedding parallel veins represent zones of flexural slip whereas arrays of rotated en echelon shear veins document homogenous, bedding parallel simple shear (flexural flow) within incompetent slate/metasiltstone beds. The amount of shear strain within these beds due to flexural flow since vein initiation, calculated from rotation of the veins (y = 3.94) can be extrapolated across the whole section (y = 0.28) and can be explained by a small change in limb dip (~1°) due to fold tightening. As the vein system post-dates cleavage (and hence earlier stages of fold development) it is interpreted to be the product of late-stage flexural slip and flow processes.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
