Abstract
Amikor Grósz Károly 1987 nyarán miniszterelnök lett, még csak kevesen gondoltak rendszerváltozásra. 1989 őszén azonban, amikor megszűnt a főtitkári megbízatása, már mindenki tapasztalhatta: rendszerváltozás zajlik az országban. Grósz maga úgy gondolta, hogy tíz-tizenkét évet tölthet hatalomban; ebben az időhorizontban gondolkodott, s ebből kiindulva igyekezett meghatározni a politikáját. Az utolsó magyar pártfőtitkár pusztán modellváltást szeretett volna, de ezt a kísérletet elsöpörte a történelem. Grósz Károly volt az utolsó magyar főtitkár, azt is mondhatjuk: ő volt a legmagasabbra jutott kádári kisember. Politikusi sikerei és hibái kihatottak Magyarország jelenkori történetére.E kötet arra tesz kísérletet, hogy objektíven mutassa be Grósz Károly politikai pályáját. Levéltári források, visszaemlékezések, illetve oral history interjúk segítségével igyekszik megvilágítani Magyarország egykori miniszterelnökének, az MSZMP utolsó főtitkárának politikai habitusát, tetteinek hátterét.
