La actividad empresarial suscrita cada vez más interés en Quebec, América y las diversas regiones del mundo. En efecto, las pequeñas y medianas empresas, PME, juegan un papel importante en la economía, tanto a nivel del valor agregado y la generación de nuevos empleos, como en el desarrollo regional. Ellas proporcionan formas alternativas de desarrollo y dan a la sociedad más flexibilidad y dinamismo, frente a los cambios y trastornos de toda índole que actúan hoy en día sobre la economía mundial. Más aun, ellas permiten a los individuos realizarse y lograr sus aspiraciones. Es por lo tanto, muy pertinente preguntarse sobre las características de las personas que crean y dirigen hacia el crecimiento estas empresas, es decir, cuales son las características del empresario exitoso.
