Abstract
Yayın iki ana bölümden oluşmaktadır. İlk bölümde azizlik kavramı, ilk Hıristiyan münzeviler Aziz Pavlos, Anthonios ve Pakhomios, azizlerin Hıristiyanlıktaki yeri, Doğu Hıristiyanlığının bir kolu olan Süryanilikte azizlik ve münzevilik kavramı, Suriye asketizmi ve azizleri diğer dindarlardan ayıran bazı özelliklere değinilmiş; ayrıca monastik toplulukların Orta Çağ toplumuna etkisi ve hagiografik metinler hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Aziz Simeon’un yaşam öyküsünün üç versiyonu bulunmaktadır. Birinci versiyon kilise tarihçisi ve Historia Religiosa’nın yazarı Theodoretos tarafından kaleme alınmıştır. İkinci versiyon Aziz Anthonios’a aittir. Üçüncü versiyon ise azizin yaşam öyküsünü anlatan üç farklı Süryani metninin en erken tarihli kabul edilen ve British Museum’da bulunan Add. 14484 döküm numaralı yazmada yer alan metindir. Birinci bölüm içinde bu versiyonlara ilişkin bilgi verilmiştir. İkinci bölümde Aziz Simeon’u anlatan üç yaşam öyküsünün, modern kaynaklarda yer alan İngilizce’ye aktarılmış metinlerden derlenmiş, Türkçe çevirisi sunulmaktadır.
