Nosso artigo visa apresentar uma leitura do monólogo La Sagouine, da escritora de origem acadiana Antonine Maillet, nascida em Bouctouche, na província do Novo Brunswick. Publicado em 1971, esse texto projetou a autora no cenário literário internacional alguns anos antes do Prix Goncourt, em 1979, com o romance Pélagiela-Charrette. Para Lise Gauvin a montagem de La Sagouine no teatro do Rideau Vert causou o mesmo choque na cena teatral montrealense que, num registro diferente, Les Belles-Soeurs, de Michel Tremblay alguns anos antes (LORD, 2010, p. 13-14). Em 2006, a Radio Canada exibiu a adaptação para a televisão dirigida por Phil Comeau no Pays de la Sagouine, misto de parque temático e de centro cultural situado em Bouctouche, que contou com a participação de Viola Léger, a atriz que encarnou a personagem ao longo de quatro décadas nos palcos. Vamos ressaltar a importância dessa obra que possui uma fortuna crítica considerável. Sua recepção dividiu a crítica em dois campos: de um lado, o texto foi visto como uma manifestação de revolta e uma denúncia contra as injustiças sociais, de outro, a autora foi acusada de veicular uma visão conformista e fatalista da sociedade acadiana. Finalmente, vamos analisar o já antológico monólogo sobre o censo, no qual a definição da identidade acadiana aparece como a negação de diversos outros pertencimentos identitários (francês, canadense, americano, quebequense), terminando por catalogar os acadianos, esses eternos desenraizados das Américas, juntamente com os índios.
