Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Changes in international business cycle affiliations are studied using an iterative procedure for detecting structural breaks in a system of equations, which allows identification of any such breaks as structural change in coefficients, volatility or correlations. This approach is employed to analyze quarterly growth rates in real GDP in the context of two VAR systems, one for the US, Euro area (aggregate), the UK and Canada and the other for the individual Euro area countries of France, Germany and Italy. Key results are that international dynamic interactions change in both the mid-1980s and the early 1990s, with such changes being particularly important for studying influences on the Euro area at the aggregate level. Nevertheless, changes in such interactions are relatively unimportant between the three major Euro area countries themselves. However, the contemporaneous (conditional) correlations between these Euro area countries increase in 1984 and 1998, with (contrary to much recent literature) a large increase in correlations is also evident across the international system during the 1990s.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
