Abstract
In response to monetary policy shocks, the market yield curve has been observed to shift or rotate. We use detailed data on the history of monetary policy changes in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand as an identification scheme in a latent factor model on daily term structure data. We demonstrate that the differing yield curve responses to unanticipated changes in monetary policy may reflect reactions to different types of monetary policy shock rather than differing reactions to the same policy shock. These different responses have recently been hypothesized to reflect information asymmetries between the monetary authority and other market participants.
