Abstract
Study more than 100 new pieces of public art and learn the history of local neighborhoods. Through our class discussions and hands-on experiences you will gain dozens of ideas for fieldtrips, and for integrating art with history, science and social studies lessons for your students. This class will introduce you to the teaching opportunities public art presents related to integrating artwork with environmental studies within an urban setting. Class field trips and discussions will spark ideas for developing integrated classroom lessons relating local art and neighborhood history. This class is designed for teachers of grades K-12. We will walk 2-3 miles each day so it is important to be in good physical condition. $27 for the class reading packet, book, and MAX rail tickets. LEARNING OUTCOMES: As a result of taking this class you will learn about: 1. Neighborhood art, including murals, sidewalk displays, sculpture, and creative bench designs. 2. Ways to tie local history with art projects. 3. Generating ideas for local art for schools and parks. 4. The importance of light rail as a transportation alternative for the 21st Century. 5. The importance of integrating art with urban green spaces that are public transportation
