The importance of parking policies as complementary policies to an overall urban transportation strategy has been generally acknowledged as a key component in influencing both transit use and ridesharing. This article is based on a study to determine how the downtown parking supply and transportation policies in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, compare with other cities. The main focus of this article is on the relationship between downtown parking supply and transit use. It is acknowledged at the outset that there are a large number of studies’ ” that have recommended a wide range of institutional, employer-based, and transportation control measure (TCM) policies to address the issues of parking supply, demand and pricing. This article focuses on only one of these, namely the relationship between downtown modal split and parking supply.
