Abstract
A brief history of the cultural patterns of Iroquoian Tribes in New York State are outlined. The Iroquoian Tribes. known originally as Five Nations (Mohawk. Oneida. Onondaga. Cayuga. and Seneca) are identified. described. and geographically placed within the state. Emphasis is placed on describing their environment. social organization, and religious beliefs. Environment includes a general description of their villages and longhouses; their foods and domestic tools, titensils, and ornaments; and clothing habits. Social organization is divided into familial or clan patterns and. very briefly, political organization. In the area of religious beliefs. their mode of warfare and ceremonial beliefs and practices are presented. This historical study ends with reservation period, giving the principal reservations in New York and Canada as indicated in a table. Illustrations are included. (CM) RC 003 741 ft
