Abstract
ABsTrACT This article examines the interactions that occur every Tuesday morning in front of the Morgentaler Clinic in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Anti-abortion protestors, volunteer clinic escorts, abortion-seeking women, and members of the public engage in debate outside of the clinic building. Far more is at stake, however, than the legal right to abortion. According to the author, a longtime clinic escort, national health policies, representations of embodied experience, provincial regulations, abstract conceptions of the female body, and regional identities combine to create a theatrical space of visibility around the clinic.
