Abstract
de bilhassa İtalya ile Osmanlı devleti arasındaki çeşitli münasebetleri araştıran bir tarihçi idi. Her ne kadar ihtisas alanlarımız aynı olmamakla beraber yıllardır yakın bir dostlukla devamlı bağlantı halinde olduğumuz bu meslektaşımızın ça-lışmaları ve Türk tarihçiliğine yaptığı hizmeti bir makale çerçevesinde tanıtmaya çalışacağız. Mahmut Şakiroğlu 1941 yılında dünyaya geldi. Ancak kendinin söylediğine göre gerçekte doğum tarihi 1939 ise de kendisi 1941 tarihini resmen kabul etmiştir. Ailesi İstanbul’a yerleşmiş olmakla beraber babası aslında Ispartalı idi. Babası o tarihlerde İstanbul’da sayıları hayli çok olan özel kültür gruplarından birine men-suptu.
