Abstract
Abstract: In this paper, transient heat and moisture transfer as well as the moisture buffering capacity (MBC) of spruce plywood are investigated both experimentally and numerically. MBC is measured with two different facilities, i.e. a glass jar facility and a recently developed transient moisture transfer (TMT) facility at the University of Saskatchewan. The TMT facility is also used for continuous measurement of temperature and humidity profiles within spruce plywood. The experimental results are validated with a numerical model. The validated numerical model is also used to investigate the effect of initial conditions, boundary conditions and thickness on MBC of plywood. The results show that MBC depends on the initial conditions and thickness of the plywood as well as the surface film coefficient. 1.
