Abstract
began an intensive study of the La Perouse Bank area, off the lower west coast of Vancouver Island, in 1985. The aim was to understand how interannual variations in ocean climate influence commercially important fish species using the area. The impetus for the work was the detrimental effect that the 1982-83 ENSO (EI Nino Southern Oscillation) event had on the lower west coast Vancouver Island herring stock.
