This document is a result of the Secretary of Energy's response to Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board Recommendation 94-2. The Secretary stated that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) would "address such issues as...the need for additional requirements, standards, and guidance on low-level radioactive waste management." The authors gathered information and compared the disposal programs used by the U.S. DOE, France, Sweden, Canada, and the United Kingdom to dispose of low-level radioactive waste.
