Abstract
This report presents the results of the evaluation of the 2-year Initiation to Teaching Project, implemented in schools in Alberta, Canada in 1985. The project provided employment in teaching for recently graduated teachers and supported their transition into full-time teaching with professional assistance. The report is divided into six sections: (1) context and nature of the evaluation; (2) internship practices in Alberta; (3) the 1985-86 evaluation phase; (4) the classroom observation study; (5) the 1986-87 evaluation phase; and (6) future of the internship in teaching. Each section provides specific information on the processes and progress of the project evaluation and descriptions of the reactions and attitudes of the project participants.
