Abstract
This paper investigates the return associated to a Canadian dollar investment in the United States under random walk, value at risk, and Sharpe ratio strategies. It used daily C $ exchange rates, and weekly U. S. and Canadian interest rates on 90-day CDs, from January 2, 1994, to July 25, 2003. The model chosen to forecast and run the simulations was a GARCH (1, 2). The empirical results suggest that currency returns are positively correlated to risk; and that the return provided by the random strategy beats the rest. 2
