Abstract
With their release of a global strategy on diet and exer-cise in 2004, the World Health Organization (WHO) moved recent debates regarding obesity and over-weight from industrialized countries to a global level (1). The WHO (2) reported that the phenomena of obesity and overweight have reached disturbing levels with global impact across all ages and socioeconomic levels. Canadian research reports steady increases in weight among both adult (3,4) and paediatric populations (5-7) over the past 30 years. The increasing impact of obesity and overweight in terms of population health outcomes and the resulting burdens on our health care system is significant (8).
