Abstract
McGill University was established in 1821 when it was granted university powers by the legislative council and a governing board was appointed. The Faculty of Medicine, established in 1821, was the first Faculty of Medicine in what is now Canada. Provision of exemplary medical education has been part of its mission from the beginning. Research was started as early as 1848 and the Faculty has a strong international reputation for its strength in both clinical and basic sciences research Three other professional schools located in the Faculty are: The School of Nursing, The School of Physical and Occupational Therapy, and the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
