Abstract
Abstract: Our research focuses on the relationship between perceived dependence and perceived environmental uncertainty. It sets out to evaluate the impact of the announced elimination of all quotas on garment import/export between WTO members as of January 1, 2005, which constituted a predictable shock leading to uncertainty, on the different members of the supply chain in the Canadian apparel industry. Our results, based on the feedback from 75 companies, indicate that (1) perceived dependence and perceived uncertainty are closely related and (2) specific industrial sector of activity is clearly the most influential determinant of both perceptions. The contributions of this paper are a generic conceptualization of the determinants of perceived dependence and uncertainty and its application to the management of the supply chain.
