Abstract
and Point 7, in particular, proposes that “mechanisms be developed, including financial, to support the long-term integration of allied health professionals into community-based physicians ’ offices, with the physicians’ clinical guidance and expertise. ” The BCPA supports an expanded role for psychology in the mental health and behavioural health care of British Columbians. Psychologists are already practicing as valued colleagues in many community-based physicians ’ offices in the United States and in some practice settings in British Columbia. The BCPA attaches herein a proposal detailing how Registered Psychologists in the Province of British Columbia can play a much needed role in the provision of mental health services, and healthcare more generally, to citizens of the Province through the Medical Services Plan and other funding arrangements. Registered Psychologists are primary care providers trained in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders.
