Abstract

1 Introduction We are interested in the measurement of plant growth using optical flow. We use a near infrared-camera with near-infrared light sources, which allows us to measure optical flow in the light and in the dark. Infrared light is just above red light in the visual spectrum and allows us to "see " in the dark with a normal black and white camera with minor modifications. Unlike infrared light, near-infrared light responds only minimally to heat. Using a near-infrared camera will allow us to measure the growth of corn seedling stems/leafs under various temperature and lighting conditions. We also examine the growth of caster oil bean leaves using a divergence of flow calculation.
