En France comme au Québec, la médiation de la musique constitue un débouché professionnel en plein développement pour les étudiant.e.s en musique et musicologie, à côté de la recherche et de l’enseignement. Notre expérience d’enseignantes nous montre que beaucoup s’y engagent avec enthousiasme, mais rapportent la difficulté à articuler les objectifs et les valeurs qui sous-tendent la formation à la médiation et la formation à la musicologie. Cet article prend appui sur les récits de musicien.nes suivant ou ayant suivi la formation en musicologie du CNSMDP et membres des instances de représentation étudiante de cette institution. L’analyse de ces témoignages permet tout d’abord d’établir une typologie des positions adoptées face à l’articulation médiation/musicologie. Dans un second temps l’article amorce une réflexion épistémologique concernant les relations entre différentes déclinaisons de la musicologie et la médiation culturelle.
