Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The 24th edition of the Directory of American Philosophers, published in 2008, provides information on philosophical activities in the United States and Canada. It provides detailed listings for college and university philosophy departments in the United States and Canada, as well as information on assistantships, research centers, societies, journals, and publishers. Indexes are provided for each category, as well as an alphabetical list, by last name, of all philosophers included in this volume. The content is summarized in a statistical overview showing total philosophy faculty by rank in each state or province. The information in this edition was obtained from questionnaires returned by philosophers during the second half of 2007, institutional websites, philosophy publishers, and other sources. This Directory is the companion volume of the International Directory of Philosophy and Philosophers, which provides information on philosophical activities in Europe, Central and South America, Asia, Africa and Australia.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
