This white paper traces key structural and aerodynamic trends across three broad generations of utility and bush aircraft: (1) early Fairchild-era types, (2) post-war all-metal bush classics such as the de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver and DHC-3/-6 Otter, and (3) modern STOL aircraft such as the Quest Kodiak, Pilatus PC-6 and PC-12. Drawing on standard aircraft design and flight-mechanics references (Anderson, 1999; Phillips, 2004; Raymer, 2018) and historical summaries of bush operations (Donald, 1997; Molson & Taylor, 1982), it identifies how wing loading, maximum lift coefficient (CLmax), materials, landing-gear design and systems integration evolved to support demanding missions from rough, short or unprepared surfaces.
