Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

This paper examines the evolving relationship between culture, identity, and hybridity within the broader context of globalisation. Drawing on classical definitions of culture as a dynamic, lived, and continually negotiated set of practices (Tylor, 1871; Williams, 1958, 1983), the paper argues that cultural processes are inherently fluid, shaped by internal diversity, dissent, and historical change (Sunder, 2001). Building on postcolonial and cultural theory, it revisits foundational conceptualisations of hybridity as articulated by Bhabha (1994), Derrida (1998), and Young (1995), while integrating more recent scholarly debates on the normativisation and political implications of hybrid identities (Kompridis, 2005). The analysis highlights how global cultural flows, technological interconnections, and transnational mobility intensify hybrid formations, producing identities that are increasingly multiple, shifting, and context-dependent. By synthesising classical and contemporary perspectives, the paper demonstrates that hybridity is not an exception but a constitutive condition of cultural life in the twenty-first century. It concludes by considering the theoretical value of understanding culture as an ongoing process of negotiation, translation, and transformation in a globalised world. Keywords: cultural hybridity; globalisation; identity; cultural studies; communication; media studies; postcolonial theory; digital culture; transnationalism

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
