Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The purpose of this study is to produce a detailed geological map of the Washabuck Peninsula, as well as describe the lithologies of the pre-Carboniferous rocks in the area and compare them to those in the rest of the Bras d'Or Terrane. Geological mapping confirmed the presence of pre-Carboniferous basement blocks with lithological similarities to other Neoproterozoic basement blocks in the Bras d'Or Terrane. The oldest unit in the study area is the Maskells Harbour formation which consists of quartzofeldspathic metasiltstone, metasandstone, marble and minor quartzite. The Maskells Harbour formation in the northeastern part of the study area is intruded by unfoliated, medium-grained diorite to hornblende-biotite granodiorite of the Washabuck pluton. The Maskells Harbour formation in the southwestern part of the study area is intruded by unfoliated medium- to coarse-grained hornblende-biotite granite of the Grass Cove pluton. Regional metamorphic grade in the Maskells Harbour formation reaches only biotite grade, except in the contact metamorphic aureoles of the plutonic units where grade increases to hornblende-hornfels facies. The Washabuck pluton and related dykes range in SiO₂ concentration from approximately 50% to 62%. The Grass Cove pluton and related dykes have higher SiO₂ concentrations, ranging from about 68% to 77%. The plutonic units in the study area show characteristics typical of I-type suites which typically form in Andean-type margin settings, which is consistent with the rest of the Bras d'Or Terrane. Based on comparisons with other units in the Bras d'Or Terrane, it is suggested that the Maskells Harbour formation has an age of about 637 Ma and the Washabuck and Grass Cove plutons have ages of about 555 Ma.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
