Abstract

An advanced electromagnetic (EM) structure is proposed to engineer orbital angular momentum (OAM) divergence based on dielectric refractive index. Propagating source was a uniform circular array (UCA) of circularly polarized (CP) patch elements capable of generating multiple required progressive phase shifts. Vortex modes of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$0,1,2, \ldots, 8$</tex> are studied with this mechanism including high number of elements. Then, the advanced EM structure is placed six-wavelength away from the source to focus the divergence pattern. Around 50% reduction on the main beam direction of vortices are achieved with the help of a custom phase distributed surface. Such compact and robust topology is beneficial for current and next generation wireless technology increasing both diversity and capacity.
