Abstract
Abstract The global struggle for inclusion – in Canada, the USA, India and beyond – represents a broader fight for civil rights, human rights and true citizenship for all. Exclusion has historically operated through multiple axes of discrimination, including race, religion, gender, ethnicity, disability and poverty. Rooted in centuries of colonialism, imperialism and capitalism, these hierarchies established a worldview in which a privileged few were deemed superior, while the majority were dehumanised and marginalised. The legacies of slavery, genocide, land seizure, apartheid and cultural erasure continue to shape modern systems of exclusion. Overcoming this deeply entrenched oppression demands a profound cultural transformation – a generational struggle toward equity, dignity and shared humanity.
