Abstract
This article is the first publication of the1623 English charter from the Russian State Archives of Ancient Documents in Moscow. Its title initial is decorated with ceremonial portrait of King James I Stuart. Studying the charter, the author identified iconographic source of king’s portrait, placed the charter in a historical and artistic context, and determined the place of the portrait in the history of English royal portraiture of the first quarter of the 17th century.
