La oxitocina (OT) es una neuro-hormona involucrada en los comportamientos afiliativos de los perros domésticos (Canis familiaris). En un trabajo previo del laboratorio, se observó que los perros mestizos que recibieron OT intranasal incrementaron su mirada hacia la cara humana para pedir comida inaccesible durante una fase de extinción de la respuesta. Asimismo, los perros Retriever miraron más en esta tarea comparado a otras razas, pero se desconoce el efecto de la OT sobre la misma. Por lo tanto, el objetivo fue evaluar los efectos de la administración de OT intranasal en perros Retriever durante la tarea de mirada. Se evaluaron 31 perros de las razas Golden y Labrador Retriever, edad promedio 4,2 (±2,6) años, de los cuales 16 recibieron 12 Unidades Internacionales de OT intranasal y 15 el equivalente en solución salina. En la tarea se realizaron tres fases: 1) adquisición: se proporcionó un trozo de hígado por cada mirada a la cara humana; 2) extinción: no se entregó alimento; 3) readquisición: se entregó nuevamente el refuerzo. Se midió la duración de la mirada a la cara y se utilizaron modelos lineales mixtos generalizados GLMM. Los resultados indicaron que no hubo efecto de tratamiento en ninguna de las fases (ps>.05). La OT no aumentó la mirada en los perros Retriever. Esto podría deberse a características de la raza y su interacción con la OT o a un efecto de techo dada la alta duración de su mirada. Futuros trabajos deberían considerar las razas en los estudios de esta neuro-hormona.
