Abstract
Children’s participation rights have been much researched and theorized since they became one of the fundamental tenets of the 1989 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The Convention posits in Article 12 that children capable of expressing their views must be given space to do so in all matters that affect them. This demand enjoys signifi cant support in principle. In practice, however, almost a quarter of a century after the Convention was approved and adopted by the UN General Assembly, children still face numerous obstacles in accessing their participation rights.
