De Universele Verklaring van de Rechten van de Mens bestaat in 2008 60 jaar. Er blijven echter nog heel wat uitdagingen voor de internationale bescherming van de mensenrechten, en dat niet alleen in ontwikkelingslanden. Deze monografie, die bijdragen bevat van Vlaamse en Nederlandse experts, maakt een stand van zaken op van de meest actuele brandpunten van de mensenrechten. Ze belicht hoe politieke, economische en culturele overwegingen nog steeds worden ingeroepen om de rechten van de mens te beperken, en gaat na in hoeverre die beperkingen gerechtvaardigd zijn.
