Based on four years of ethnographic fieldwork, Balázs’s monograph seeks to answer whether the Magdolna Quarter can be considered a ghetto. The book illuminates the dual role of informal support networks among local Roma families: while these networks facilitate survival, they also constrain individual mobility.
