Abstract
Cognitive disorders are frequent and widely described in the literature in the context of MS. Language disorders are less common, with some studies finding no language disorders in MS patients. The aim of this study was to carry out a joint cognitive and language assessment of five MS patients, and to analyze the relationship between cognitive and language tests. To this end, tests from the MACFIMS battery and the MEC protocol were used. Four out of five patients showed substandard results on at least one cognitive or language test, revealing deficits in verbal episodic memory, processing speed, comprehension and reformulation of metaphors, and access to the lexicon. Fluency tasks involve both language and cognition. Patients with PPMS showed inferior results to RRMS patients on most tests.
