Abstract
The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever or « Toller » is a medium-sized gun dog bred to retrieve game for the hunter. Although the breed is still quite unknown in France at present, especially since three years. The study of this breed was carried out by describing the breed standard and its hereditary predispositions, starting from literature as well as from personal data. The most dominant pathologies identified are very diverse yet still limited. The most frequently observed pathologies are hypothyroidism, dysplasia, immune diseases, Addison’s disease and ocular lesions. However, other diseases are present in the breed and requires special attention. The aim of this work including a personal study part is to summarize informations regarding the breed in 2018, propose reference values regarding breed specificity, and to sensitize breeders to principal characteristics of the breed in order to maintain high quality breeding and selection.
