En 2025, le secteur du transport ferroviaire canadien est confronté à des défis significatifs liés à la décarbonisation, en raison des préoccupations croissantes concernant les changements climatiques et la nécessité de réduire les émissions de gaz à effet de serre. Le contexte actuel met en lumière plusieurs tendances et dynamiques qui façonnent la manière dont la modélisation est devenue un outil essentiel de prise de décision pour répondre à ces défis. Les modèles jouent un rôle crucial en fournissant des outils d'analyse sophistiqués et des scénarios prospectifs pour l’anticipation des impacts, l’optimisation des itinéraires et des opérations, l’analyse coût-bénéfice, l’évaluation des technologies et la gestion des risques, ce qui permet aux acteurs du secteur de prendre des décisions plus éclairées et stratégiques. Malgré les avantages qu’elle confère, la modélisation peut comporter certains défis et limitations quant aux impacts sur l’orientation et l’élaboration des décisions en matière de décarbonisation et l’atteinte des objectifs de réduction de GES, en particulier dans le transport ferroviaire, ou d’autres variables issues d’un contexte complexe d’interactions systémique ont un impact sur la prise de décision. À travers une étude de cas portant sur les entreprises ferroviaires canadiennes de Classe 1, cette recherche vise à illustrer ce constat tout en orientant les travaux futurs sur l’utilisation des modèles décisionnels pour améliorer l’efficacité des stratégies d’entreprise face aux enjeux climatiques et aux impératifs du développement durable. _____________________________________________________________________________ MOTS-CLÉS DE L’AUTEUR : Décarbonisation, modélisation, transport, rail, prise de décision
