La première est spécialiste d’histoire de la littérature et du livre au Québec, le second est sociologue. Tous deux ont uni leurs forces et leurs expertises pour examiner l’histoire d’un objet qui leur tient à cœur : le roman sentimental, tel qu’il s’est développé au Québec. Dans un ouvrage fouillé paru aux Presses de l’Université de Montréal et écrit à quatre mains par deux chercheurs issus de disciplines qui n’ont pas pour habitude de collaborer avec ce degré d’étroitesse, ils conjuguent leurs analyses pour rendre compte de cette production médiatique qui en dit long sur les évolutions non seulement d’un secteur – le roman relatant des amours contrariées qui, pourtant, finissent par triompher –, mais plus largement d’une société et de ses transformations depuis le XIXe siècle. Ils s’entretiennent ici avec Gilke Geerearts et David Martens de la teneur de leur travail ainsi que de la nature de leur démarche collaborative.
