Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Our goal is to find productive ways to use this University’s common plastic waste. We strive to create useful products that would replace items usually made from virgin material. By collecting waste from and producing products to be used at the university, we are beginning to form a circular plastic economy. We have collected and attempted to process many materials so far including HDPE, PET, PP, PS, LDPE, foams, and films, mostly with success. We then identify products that can be made from those materials and used within our campus, such as notebook covers, plant pots, and emergency blankets all made from 100% local recycled material. We have also partnered with Bellingham Makerspace and plan on hosting a workshop later this quarter to teach community members how easy it is to recycle plastic waste, even from home. We hope to further educate others in the area about plastic recycling, and how fulfilling it can be to recycle waste from your own home.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
