Abstract
Cet article propose une analyse du paysage linguistique de la région de la Baie Sainte-Marie, située en Nouvelle-Écosse au Canada. Reconnue comme la plus importante communauté acadienne et francophone de la province, cette région rurale évolue dans un contexte de contact linguistique constant, en particulier avec l’anglais. L’objectif de cette recherche est d’évaluer dans quelle mesure le paysage linguistique de la Baie Sainte-Marie traduit une dynamique sociolinguistique orientée en faveur du français, langue étroitement liée à l’identité culturelle acadienne. À partir d’un corpus de 439 photographies d’affiches, l’analyse révèle que, bien que le français soit visible dans l’espace public de cette communauté, l’anglais s’y impose largement. Si un certain bilinguisme est perceptible dans les contextes institutionnels, la majorité des affiches révèlent une nette prédominance de l’anglais.
