L’œuvre narrative et essayistique de Camille de Toledo pose une réflexion sur l’Histoire, sur la mémoire, sur l’oubli, puis sur les paradoxes qui émanent de cette tension. D’un titre à l’autre, effectivement, ces paradoxes apparaissent non comme les écueils d’un propos sans finalité, mais plutôt comme le langage du problème qui accompagne le rapport complexe des générations entre elles. Dans ce mouvement, la nature double du pathétique (ce qui émeut et ce qui est risible) se détache comme une perspective singulière qui permet de saisir de l’intérieur du paradoxe les modalités d’un rapport qui concerne la littérature, les traces de notre passé et l’avenir de leur lecture.
