Abstract
Late iron age and early roman settlement development in the Turones’ territory : "la Roche Deniau’ in Parçay-Meslay and “la Cave Blanchette" in Monnaie (Indre-et-Loire) Two sites excavated at Monnaie and Parçay-Meslay (Loire valley) can trace the evolution of farming settlements during about six centuries, between 180 BC and 425 AD. Five periods have been identified. The first two are characterised by rural settlements that developed between the founding of the first enclosed farm circa 180 BC and the first quarter of the 1st century AD. During the next period, from around 25 AD to 60-70 AD, significant changes took place before the Late Iron Age enclosure system was abandoned. Masonry buildings were erected during the fourth period which lasted from the late 1st century AD to the beginning of the 3rd century AD, making a clean sweep of previous installations. Among these buildings, an unusual one had two compartmentalised internal spaces reminiscent of Horrea plans. The last period, poorly documented, corresponds to the late 4th to early 5th century settlement.
